An additional factor in getting clivia to bloom is that they prefer to be
potbound. If you want to keep them in the ground, they will still be much
happier in a pot that is buried. I keep mine on a north-facing porch, where
she gets early-morning and late-afternoon sun. We do occasionally get frost
here [Stockton, zone 9] but being close to the house and about 4 feet above
the ground, she has been happy so far with the 2 winters that I've had her.
