One member of our group responded to my query about shade tolerant understory trees with the suggestion of Davidia involucrata. I did a bit of research on this tree and it is beautiful! But I've never seen it growing down in my part of California. Does anyone know whether it will survive/thrive in a zone 24 garden? And are there any dwarf varieties (or just ones shorter than 40 feet)?
