I was looking through a few books on South African
plants today, and started to wonder if the following
are already being grown by anyone here in California?
In no particular order:
Anaphalina tritacea
Bobartia longicyma
Brunia nodiflora
Brunia albiflora
Berzelia species(lanuginosa)
Cadaba aphylla
Gnidia squarrosa
Dideltia spinosa
Mimetes hirtus or M. cucullatus(seen this at UCSC)
Mimetes fimbriifolius
Nylandtia spinosa
Nymania capensis
Onixotis stricta and other species
Tritoniopsis lata
Serruria heterophylla or Serruria florida
Oldenbergia heterophylla, O. paradoxa or O. grandis, &
other species
Psoralea aphylla(Psorale pinnata is easy here)
Psoralea fetta
Orphium frutescens(does it die back suddenly?)
Syncarpa vestita(prone to rotting foliage in winter?)
Tetraria thermalis
Liparia splendens
Lessertia(Sutherlandia) frutescens
Podalyria calyptrata or P. sericea(both seem to quicly
lose all their lower foliage here; could they need
michorrhizal fungi?)
Chrysanthemoides monifera(is it invasive here in
Calif?)
