It was good to see Sean's posting of Med Plant Society events.
Here's a meeting on gardening and garden ecology that will be of interest to
many people on this list on the West Coast of US and Canada. It's sponsored by
the North American Rock Garden Society, and on the West Coast, that means lots
of Mediterranean materials.
"Braving the Elements", the 31st annual Western Winter Study Weekend, March
5-7, at the Valley River Inn, Eugene OR Sponsored by the Emerald Chapter, North
American Rock Garden Society, the meeting explores garden ecology: soils,
microclimates, native origins. Speakers include Panayoti Kelaidis, "Old
friends", "the rock garden as a laboratory"; Gwen Kelaidis, "Living with a rock
gardener"; John Lonsdale, "Choice bulbs", "Pushing the limits -- growing
challenging plants in the open garden"; Art Kruckeberg, "Plants grow by geologic
consent"; Ernie and Marietta O'Byrne, "Garden niches from woodland to desert";
David Mason, "Evolutionary adaptability -- from wilderness to the garden"; Tanya
Harvey, "Adaptations of Oregon native plants"; David Hale, "From the top down";
Loren Russell, "The element of desire: Beauty, botany and philosophy" Also
workshops, plant/seed/art sales and garden visits.
Plant vendors include Mt.Tahoma Nursery, Beaver Creek Greenhouses, Northwest
Garden Nursery, Bovees Nursery, Hedgerows Nursery, Hansen Nursery, Porterhowse
Nursery, and Berry Botanic Garden. Seeds will be sold by Northwest Native Seed
and BC Alpine Garden Club. Phytosanitary certificates will be available.

31, $150.
