Our newspaper has an article about the placement of Rafflesia within the Euphorbias.  As a parasite, it has been unclassifiable till now, but is now related to pointsettia and "Irish Bells".  While I find genuine folk names charming, I consider manufactured ones annoying.  I googled to find out more, and discovered a very interesting website, developed by Julie Ardery in 2004.

Many thanks for introducing us to this site. What absolutely delighted me was the article on the Great Vine of England as I had the privilege of visiting this important individual many years ago, in fact only a couple of years after the end of WW2 when I was in England as a student at Reading University,  and now it is more than half a century older and I am pleased to learn still in robust health. I particularly remember the huge main stem which, after passing through the wall from outdoors actually has its own private enclosure before disappearing  through another partition  wall to the main house to produce its great long arms. All this we could view from a glassed in passage along which we slowly filed. I don't think my husband ever saw it and I shall take great pleasure in sharing the site and my memories with him later when he comes back from an appointment.

Even then it had a woman dedicated entirely to nursemaiding it and I wonder how many successors she has had since then until the present incumbant took over. it really sounds a most delighful job I think.
