Re: How cold it is tonight

We were at 18 Sunday morning and 15 this morning and expect 24 tonight; at 9 a.m. today with the sun shining brightly it was still 32 F.  We expect another week of high 20's low 30's and still no rain.  I may have to reconnect up my irrigation to water some plants and then drain it again before night fall - have too many plants to water with watering cans.

I believe all of the citrus crop will be lost for the whole county.

Many of my succulents are looking poorly even though I had them covered.  I covered my Buddha's hand and grapefruit, but the tissue is probably dessicated inside.  Other citrus leaves look bad - those weren't covered.  Jelly palm fruit froze and split but still tastes good.  Today I noticed my Alyogyne leaves are all drooping but the stems are still pliable - I had not covered it.  It is planted facing south against my gift shop.   My asparagus fern in large pots are still ok but they are covered each night.  My hardenbergia (not covered) is still doing ok planted under trellis on east side of gift shop.   Chamelaucium is still looking ok but is planted against house facing west.   Dodonea still ok in front yard at about 15 feet from house.  My bathtub with Koi has had one inch of solid ice but two logs placed in the water enabled me to break the ice and remove it the past two mornings and of course the fountains and birdbaths were frozen solid. Tecomaria leaves are totally gone on one planted on mound.  One against house lost most of its leaves, one near driveway under maple has a few leaves.  I'll probably purchase a hummingbird feeder because there isn't much left for them to feed on now; I can bring the feeder in at night.  Bottlebrush still has a few blossoms but not many for the hummingbirds.  My silverdollar eucalyptus still look ok, even the tinest leaves.  My potted lavender plugs in small pots were covered but soil froze solid and didn't thaw last two days, we shall see how they take this - leaves still look ok though.
