Just remembered. I have volunteered at UCSC Arb for a long
time, and in 1990 we noted that the same plant - they were planted in different
parts of the Australian garden - died a sudden death in the sunny section and
the one planted in the shade survived completely. What happened: by the time
noon arrived the sun had heated the plant to the point that it literally burst -
it was nearly frozen and the sudden heat did it in. Moral: check where you plant
the tender ones. bill grant
