You won't want to add a groundcover that requires watering, as that will not be healthy for the oak.
You could use several species of cyclamen. Some of them have incredibly beautifully marked leaves, and the flowers are a bonus. The two commonest are hederifolium that blooms in early fall, and coum, which blooms in midwinter.
