So, it has been about a week since that cold snap. I'm seeing more
damage that wasn't apparent when I had first wrote about it. I've
noticed that all of the leaves on my two Protea cynaroides are
entirely burned. The stems appear to be fine, but I think I may have
lost this year's flower bud. C'est la vie I guess.. there's always
next year (both plants only have two stems). The stems look fine, I
don't see any death. My Leucospermum cordifolia seems to have a lot of
burn on the leaves. I may have lost my two aloe plicatilis, because
all of the leaves are entirely black. The Paraserianthes lophantha has
total foliage burn. The Echium fastuosum is showing extensive foliage
burn. Even my small Brahea edulis seedling has burn on its leaves (and
they seem to be one of the hardier plants I own). All of the lantana
are toast. The Corymbia ficifolia has entire leaf burn, but it appears
to be restricted to just the leaves and tender tips.
Of plants that look fine, I see little or no damage to: Feijoa
sellowiana, Ceanothus, one of the Fremontodendron, Butia capitata,
Dietes bicolor, Opuntia ficus-indica, Trichocereus peruvianus,
Romneya coulteri, Cordyline australis, Grevillea 'Pink Pearl',
Eriogonum giganteum, Prunus ilicifolia (probably the most perfect
looking).
There are more plants, but as I work until dark, I don't get a good
chance to take a survey, which will have to wait until the weekend.
For those in California who got hit by the snap, anything significant,
or most dissapointing loss?
