Re: cyclamen in the landscape?

It's big up here in the PNW.  I propagate it for Seattle Parks from seed.  Kubota Garden is planting some out right now.

The one I grow I think is C. coum.  There is a lot of variation in the leaves with the silver pattern.  I think the old Heronswood grew an almost all silver-leafed one.

When I worked at the Center for Urban Horticulture in 2003-05 we had several patches of it.  I think the cyclamen is growing next to the new library.  I can't remember which species it was though.

When I was at the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley (2001-2003), taking care of the Mediterranean collection, there was an area up along the edge of the garden near the fence that bordered the Ecological Area of Strawberry Canyon.  I think that area may be pretty sunny since they removed a large oak that was on the edge of the Asia/Medit section at the top of a staircase.

In any of these situations, once they're in a spot that they like, they pretty much take care of themselves.  I don't remember fussing over them at all.

Let me know if you want more detail.
