Something that will make this Med-group proud is that we still grow a Rhamnus
alaternus hedge chosen on Sean's advice during his only visit years ago.

I really hope you will be able to come back Sean! And of course all the others
are welcome to visit.

Ciao Alessandra -

Thank you - I am glad that I could repay Susana in some small way for her
generosity to Deb & I. I can recall that conversation we all had over dinner
at Susana's, and that I happened to find this very Rhamnus growing wild along
the road to the beach (a mere few hundred yards from La Mortella) in the days
following!

I also remember other plants from those walks Deb and I took the week we
stayed on Ischia - we currently grow Crithmum maritimum, Rock Samphire, which
we say growing on the verges. It makes a wonderful garden plant, with
handsome grey-blue foliage and wonderful umbels of chartreuse green flowers.
We love it! I understand from a friend in Mallorca that the tender new shoots
of this plant are made into a pickle which is delicious - I'm looking for a
recipe if anyone knows of one.

We definitely will be coming back to Ischia and La Mortella. And we're
looking forward to seeing all the new work your doing on those upper terraces
- just what I always thought would make a great addition to the garden! I'm
working on a updated version of my La Mortella talk and would love to have
current and 'waterwise' images to add!

BTW - I belong to the Flickr photo sharing community and I've created the
following group of various people's photos of La Mortella:

The Rhamnus alaternus hedges are in one of the first photos of this group, for
those interested.
