No, on one of my educational AG In The Classroom Conferences, we visited a
huge commercial rose business. They told us that they had always
pruned Nov-Dec but one year, everyone in the company got ill and pruning was
delayed until early February. They said, much to their surprise the roses
were better than ever, so much so, that they now wait until February to
prune. I have been pruning my roses in the first two weeks of February for
6-8 years now. I open my garden to the public the first weekend in April
and the roses are stunning, every year. I also prune them back very
harsh. People who aren't gardeners assume I've killed them or are removing
the rose garden the first week after pruning. Relax, have bowls of
fresh citrus around and enjoy the relatives.
