I grew up in Granada Hills (not far from Simi Valley). Our soil was pure
decomposed sandstone, utterly devoid of nutrition. We had to fertilize in
order to make anything other than oat grass grow. The drainage was great,
though! On the other hand, I'm now in San Jose gardening on heavy
clay. Much less need for fertilizer, but I lose plants to root rot. Personally, I prefer the better-drained soil. Mike San Jose, CA |
