A better resource for guidance would be the Sunset Western Garden Book. Those folks have divided USDA zone 10 into many, smaller, and more narrowly categorized zones. Glendora is in Zone 21, but very close to Zone 18, which means that the conditions of both will be seen. Both are in thermal belts between inland valleys and the ocean. Santa Ana Winds are a factor to consider. Southern California always tends to be dry, and this year excessively so. That means that starting a new garden should be one that keeps moisture (or lack of it) in mind. Even drought tolerant plants need water to become established and so far Mother Nature hasn't given us much this "rainy" season.

All the best with the new garden!
