[medit-plants] Re: on the topic of latin

Thank you to Steve for an amusing read. I learned some plant scientific names when I was a child, not realizing it was unusual to do so. When I was teaching, I encouraged students to teach at least a few such names to children, and give them an understanding of how they came about. I found it immensly useful to have that knowledge when I grew up. I think I have updated all of the plant names in the new, 30th edition of Golden Gate Gardening, including that of rosemary. Now that the scientists are able to study the DNA, the classifications should be more lasting.

Was embroiled in a discussion of botanical latin with a friend recently which reminded me of something I had read on the gimcw.org website. I found what I was looking for but also found a bit of levity at the end of this post! https://gimcw.org/2023/08/21/its-all-latin-to-me-part-2/ I had seen the same episode referenced and I thought similarly! Thought you nice people might enjoy.
