In Reference to Sues posting about Zantedeschia I hope the list members take note of her comment about this plant being hard to eradicate once established. In Western Australia this plant is a major environmental weed in wetlands and seasonally inundated areas. In our summer the plant dies back then pops up at the end of spring. While many people find the flowers very attractive the plants and the seeds are quite toxic and children are known to have died after eating the spadix (in South Australia). Caution is advised in planting this spp in the ground or where children could gain access. On another note I planted several hundred seed into a pot about 9 years ago and left it in the shadehouse at work. Dozens of seedlings emerged and these plants have emerged every year since. I have never fertilised them and watering has been by rainfall only and they still come up. No flowers as the competition would be to high and not much in the way of nutrients but they are tough!
