This, I can well believe. All further attempts to track down seed of
this have failed. My original plant was raised from a small pack of
mixed 'mallee' seeds, sent to me back in the early '80s. It was some
time before I had it 'nailed' as E. rhodantha although I suspected
(and hoped) it would be that species. It appears to grow reasonably
well in the extreme S.W. of England although the considerably higher
rainfall obviously makes it prone bacterial or fungal rot and a fairly
large specimen can succumb in an alarmingly short period of time. I
suspect my plant grew too 'soft' as a result of liberal applications
of liquid fertiliser, given to its neighbours. Still, I had the
pleasure of seeing a couple of flowers - something I never thought
possible this far north.
