If the deadline for submittal of suggestions has not yet closed then the
spec. for fruiting street-trees set by Cyndi:

> > - climate adapted; no watering after the first year

might be met by the Pineapple Guava, Feijoa sellowiana. I know of somebody
in Oakland who has planted several for this purpose.
