Re: Salvias and the freeze

Here in the flatlands of Berkeley (California) my garden dropped to 28 F. on
the two coldest nights, hovered around 30 the other two. A Salvia
confertifolia transplant that I had growing in a pot under the overhang of
my front porch suffered significant damage to the largest leaves and flowers,
but already is showing signs of recovering, both from the base and along the
stems. Likewise a specimen recently planted out in the garden. Of two
varieties of Salvia leucantha, one planted in a raised bed looks pretty
devastated, while the other, an all-violet form, growing at sidewalk level at
the base of an old Rosemary 'Tuscan Blue' escaped virtually unscathed.
