Interesting that C. Carter should mention tree dahlias. I only just
received newspaper clippings about them - Bob Ligon has a tree dahlia farm
in Aptos, California and seems to be the main distributor of them. In
addition to being lovely looking trees - a photo of the flower didn't seem
to resemble ordinary dahlias to me - the "inulin" found in their roots (or
tubers) could possibly become a cure for sugar-related diseases. His
address is 2752 Trout Gulch Road, Aptos 95003-3009.
A bomarea, which I grew from Chiltern seed about 5 years ago, is
finally appearing to proaduce flower buds. Till now it's just been long
tendrils laden with leaves during summer and then dying down over winter
(indoors of course). Things like this just take one's mind off all that
snow that just seems to keep coming.
