I've done what you should never do but what I hope you all have done
at some time or other - and so will feel sympathetic to my idiocy.
I've ordered seeds more or less blind, knowing and admiring others in
the genus concerned but not knowing enough about the requirements of
these particular spp to be able to make sensible use of them. I
thought someone on the list more expert on the S. African flora - or
with an appropriate reference book to hand - might be able to help me
out.
The spp concerned are all Heserpantha. Viz: Hh. backmannii, cucculata,
erecta and falcata. What I most want to know is: which of these are
summer-growing spp whose seed I need to sow in the spring and which
(if any) are winter-growers whose seed I need to sow in the autumn?
Any further tips (soil/compost? conditions required in cultivation?
hardiness levels?) would be much appreciated.
TIA for any help.
