In my town, all house water (gray water) gets sent to the waste water
plant to be purified, (im not sure what they do after though, but its
probably sent to sea). BUT all water that runs through the gutters ends
up in numerous percolation lots around town. These lots are basically
large holes in the ground. I have one behind my house. This is one way
to get the water back that falls on the streets. I think it makes sense
because it helps to replenish the aquifers under the city. Although. in
monterey and salinas nearby, all of their sewer water heads straight
out to the bay. Which is quite wasteful, but then again, salinas is on
clay soil, and monterey is on the slope of the coastal mountains.
