Fig tree and bougainvillea...

Hello all,

I usually just lurk and read the interesting conversations, but I wonder if
anyone can help on a couple of questions...

1. My brother has a fig tree that he would like to tend a little better. He
lives in the Cotswolds (a little ways east of Bristol, England), as does his
tree. The courtyard behind the house is pretty sheltered (though they do get
colder winters than us in Devon). The tree bears the occasional fruit, but
he was wondering if it's possible to do anything to help it fruit more
consistently.

2. A colleague has some bougainvillea in her garden. She's in a sheltered
part of East Devon, and says that the plants flower a bit, but not too well.
Same question, really: what can she do to spur the plants on?

If anyone can suggest anything, I'd be very grateful. If you need any more
information, just drop me a message and I'll get back to you during the
week.

Many thanks in advance!

David Harrison
