Salvia aethiopis is listed in the CalFlora database
(http://www.calflora.org/) as an invasive weed, as is S. verbenacea. I am
not aware of other Salvia species that are causing potential threats in
California. It is a concern when we are trialing plants chosen for climate
appropriateness, but in general, Salvias in California do not seem to be
rampant re-seeders in my opinion.
