I have found the following lilies good value in my garden
No summer irrigation: Lilium candidum, Lilium regale
Summer irrigation approx 1 x per month: Lilium henryi, Lilium x Aurelianens=
e (GOLDEN CLARION, yellow trumpets, Stookes Var. and OLYMPIC Strains), =
CHERRY MAC, HORNBACKS GOLD.
Regular watering and fertilising - all grown in big tubs as multi-stemmed =
clumps: Lilium auratum x speciosum (ORIENTAL hybrids - about 20 different =
colour forms), BLACK BEAUTY and several similar wide crosses. Moved about =
as needed to make spots of summer colour in lightly shaded areas.
Asiatics are highly influenced by the cut flower trade and hence selected =
on their capacity to perform well according to the needs of that greenhouse=
industry - easy mass propagation, even growth to a standard stem length =
and a flower spike with enough but not too many flowers (difficult to pack =
and transport), long life under refrigeration etc etc. They are not really =
intended to be garden flowers even tho' sold as such
