Jerusalem artichokes

Nan,
I have grown these in both Forest Lake, Minnesota and in Sacramento, California. While I do like to eat them on occasion, I feel you should be warned that after a couple of years they proved to be pretty invasive in both places. This coming from a guy who thinks Lonicera
japonica (Hall's) is a nice controllable thing to grow, and has Clematis flammula (in full flower now) in a 20 by 50 foot backyard.
Should you continue the experiment, they taste much better if you leave them in the ground until after some cold weather. Seems to make them sugar up more. The California ones didn't taste nearly as good as the Minnesota grown ones for this reason (I think).

Yours most respectfully,
Michael Larmer
