Garter snakes, frogs, and salamanders :} eat slugs. I have seen tree frogs gobble up baby slugs in my seed pots, leaving tender seedlings unscathed...yeah! Depending upon their surroundings and options, geese and ducks ~can really trash a small garden. They have a tendency to go after young tender seedlings, lovingly raised and carefully planted out. Large birds such as crows and jays also do this.

I remember attending an especially wonderful gardening lecture by Henry and Margaret Taylor from Scotland at a NARGS meeting. They mentioned that when they plant or re-plant an area, they cover it loosely with bird netting until the plant treasures have taken firm root.

We went from spring to high summer here at light speed this year. It is hard to believe that I am already harvesting spore and seed. Yikes!

Cheers, Louise, with salamanders hiding in selaginellas **** :} :} :} ***

and lotsa froggies in the seed pots!
