Edible problem temporarily solved

Thanks to all who responded so promptly to my cosmos query.  I had considered using them around the edge alternating with purple Ruellia, but since the 18 17-year-olds were descending on my house Saturday evening, I opted to solve my problem with the rare and endangered colorful variety of silkus fakeii in the form of a 99cent silk lei I purchased from the party store when I bought the balloons!  The cake looked great for the 3 minutes it was looked at before the candles were blown out.
I'll have more time to do my research before my parents' golden wedding anniversary in September!  I suppose I should even purchase a good book on the subject.
