Re: Nerium Oleander in SW UK

Thanks to one and all for the helpful replies.

It seems the likely cause of flowering not taking place may be
one of insufficient temperature rather than any lack of nutriment
to the flower stalks. Here in the SW UK frosts are pretty
minimal - at any rate near the coasts - but the summer mean temp
is a good deal less than in central and eastern areas. It's the
flip side of the maritime climate that we have down these parts.
Maybe that's why Nerium's don't do very well in the UK by repute.
Eastern areas, which may have enough heat in summer, can have
severe frosts in the winter - enough to kill them off. Western
maritime areas are unlikely to suffer from that disadvantage but
may be too cool in the summer for effective flowering. Catch 22.

But I'll still try one and put it against a south-facing wall. In
a few years I'll let you know! Thank you, David, for the info
about varieties and sources.
