Hi Cali -
I suspect that this is Ruellia brittoniana. I have not grown this plant, but have read of it. The picture suggested to be that it was a Ruellia, and this wold seem to also be the species.
David Feix, often a participant of this forum, knows more about Ruellias and has grown many types.
