I think Dudleya would be a natural choice for a vertical wall.
Afterall, D. caespitosa forms very ornate looking mats of rosettes
along the cliffs in Point Lobos. In fact, it's unusual enough that
people who don't garden think it's some sort of weird moss because it
doesn't look like anything they've seen before.
