The sudden losing of plants really interested me. This year I have seen plants die within two days. One day they look nice and the next they are totally dried up. This has happened to fully grown Dahlia's grown from seed, Penstemon Cardanalis, snap dragons, cosmos, established Veronica and a few others. I thought that because I had used cow manure early in the Spring to improve the soil that maybe I had introduced something that caused the sudden dying. Those that died were all in different places in the garden and not next to each other. I mulch with grass clippings which have pine needles mixed in and water mornings and or evenings depending on what needs watering. I use a hose. As I have many very small plants just getting started they need the water in our 90 + degree weather here in Athens,
Greece. Here the snapdragons act as perennials if the rust doesn't get them first. Any way of avoiding these loses is appreciated. Lorraine |
