My cousin's son has a small area in his mostly hardscape San Diego backyard where he'd like a no-maintenance groundcover. That area provides access to a gas meter, so it needs to tolerate occasional foot traffic. I haven't been there or seen pix, but I assume it's sun to part shade. I'm partial to Calif. natives but am looking for other suggestions as well. My cousin says her son is very busy and often away, and that the other plants in the yard get care only when she visits from DC. She'd like to plant something when she visits next month, so it should be something readily available in SD that has a chance of surviving if planted in midsummer.
