All i can say to that is: Wow! Anyhow my little garden that is not so nice as
Gay's has its little recently devided Miscanthus sinensis ' Yaku Jima' is
doing very well. A few leaves turned and a few stalks without roots died but
90% is surviving. The Stipa gigantea is doing well about as same as the
miscanthus but is holding on. I water them everyday as im not about to loose
these to death by drying. Their in sand and i figure if pumpkins can grow
well ( usually people tell me they need rich soil) i figure the others can
survive. My chamomile is slowly spreading out, but i have to weed a lot
because weed seeds get into the empty spaces, while the Chamomile is filling
in. I revived my Lemon Thyme and its doing well and is spreading a bit. The
Dietes ( i know its so overused, but in my city its rare to see it in yards)
all have fat little flower buds but alas they bloom sporadically. I revived
my little Microlepias and all have an apple green new foliage. They're under
a juniper and since they take less moisture than most ferns, it keeps the
juniper from getting rotted roots. My Agapanthus' all have one flower stalk
but hey theyre new as well. I saw the first hummingbird visit them the other
day. My marguerites all seem to be doing fine and they all are performing
well. The bamboo shot up this spring. Its about 8 feet high at the tallest
culm and very leafy. I keep it under control by spading around the sucker
once in a while to catch rogue rhizomes. My Jasminum polyanthum is loving it.
Tons of new vines are reaching out and filling up its wire trellis. In spring
and winter it was a sight, covered in blooms!. I have a strange little
Mandevilla. Its flowers are white with yellow throats and to me it doesnt
seem like a Mandevilla ( Maybe its not , who knows?). I have a few bearded
irises but theyre past blooming now. I still have to work on the area near
the Ornamental Plum ( Prunus cerassifera 'Thundercloud') I was surprised, it
shot up and slowed down. Im not going to trim it because im trying to get
height in there, as well as leaving as many leaves on to keep its food
production up. As for the Area near the Plum, i tried lawn grass but watering
was too much and i think, if i can ill try to grow a native Sandmat
Manzanita. Good low bush, small leaves, very attractive foliage and the
fruits look nice. I wish i could find a source of Coffee berry ( Its a
Rhamnus ) because the foliage is a slatey looking deep green, very attractive
habit. The novelty is the berries. When fully ripe they taste like coffee.
Thats about it for me. Re- reading this, the yard sounds nicer than it really
is :)
