Re: Mysteries

Tim,

I did a bit of digging in Kew's Index Kewensis CD-ROM database (it
includes almost all published seed plant names). I also looked in
our Missouri Botanical Garden TROPICOS database
(http://mobot.mobot.org/Pick/Search/pick.html). Here's some information on
all three plants:

The name Temu divaricatum (note the spelling) is most probably a synonym
of Myrciaria dubia, a species of the family Myrtaceae from S. America, not
Australasia.

Santolina magonica is a synonym of S. chamaecyparissus subsp.
magonica or S. chamaecyparissus var. magonica. Take your pick which rank
you recognize it at. From the information I have to hand it seems to grow
in southern Europe.

Acanthopanax ricinifolium is now regarded as a synonym of Kalopanax
septemlobus var. septemlobus, native to China, Japan, Korea, and Russia.
Var. magnificus grows in China and Japan.

Hope this helps a bit, Nick.
