Seems to me that I tried some sp. of Pavonia many years ago from
a nursery in Santa Barbara. It was miserable during a cold, wet
winter and then suffered all kinds of pests during a long hot
summer. The flowers remained mostly closed like many mallows
and were dark purple. The leaves reminded me of HIBISCUS
syriacus cultivars and all in all it proved a waste of time here
in Sunset's zones 16/17 at 1000' in the Berkeley Hills. I seem to
remember that the five gallons were 3-4' tall and fairly fastigiate.
