Sounds like it Jan, many species have inflorescences that can be
anything from 15 to 26 ft tall. Without actually seeing pics, it is
difficult to identify that Villa Noailles from a description alone.

Well, you've wetted my appetite to have a mooch around 'up there' on
the next rainy day. Splendid old gardens like this desperately need
renovating, but all too frequently they have to endure extreme neglect
before someone finally takes up the challenge.
