Summer garden

Just a little report on how the front garden is coming along.

We finally got the gravel for the dry stream bed. Its 3/4 inch pea
gravel. It looks like mixed rocks also (it has the local yellow
granite, a reddish stone, some grey granite, and limestone mixed in).
it looks nice and has certainly inproved the gardens look. I did lay
down landscape fabric to make sure anything growing under the stream
bed doesn't poke through. All i need now is a few cobbles, and some
larger stones, and it will be all set. It looks more like a gravel
pathway right now. Hopefully, we will also get some Manzanitas (Emerald
creeper), and some ceanothus. When those fill in, the stream bed will
look much more natural.

My spearmint plants are starting to grow taller. Soon we will have
enough to put sprigs in tea, etc. Also its smells oh so nice =). I have
two, but one seems to not be doing so well. The other seems to love
where it is. Also, i trimmed all the inflorescences off of my Stipa
giganteas. They were starting to get in the way of people walking along
the pathway. My Arbutilons are finally recovering from that cold snap
earlier. One of the plants has flowers and the other is sending out new
shoots. Another recovering plant is my potted moro blood orange. It
seems as if a snail chewed off most of the bark, but theres one strip
that still alive, and its feeding a new shoot, thats already about 5
inches long.

One of my accidents was i accidentally hoed out one of the Native bush
lupine seedlings i was growing in the front yard. Fortunately the plant
i got them from is still putting out seeds. I'm sure we will get some
seeds coming up next year since the parent plant is right on the
property line, and most of its pods have split, and cast their seeds.

Anyway, thats how the front garden is shaping up. Its FINALLY coming
together after not having anything done to it for the past three years.
