sad news

I'm dreadfully sorry to tell you that your on-line friend and colleague,
Gary Matson, was killed this week.  Police aren't releasing much
information, but this morning's local newspaper indicates death was due to a
gunshot wound.
I'm an acquaintance of Gary's--I also live in Redding, California, where his
home is--and just recently subscribed to this mediterranean plants list.
Though I haven't yet communicated with the group, I saw a lot of e-mail from
Gary.  I know you will be wondering why you are no longer hearing from him.
I'm sorry to tell you the sad news.  Gary was a remarkable person.
If I learn of plans for a memorial service I will pass the information along
to you.
