Hortus says this is a Compositae, member of the Eupatorium Tribe. That
there are perhaps 150 ssp of perennial herbs and shrubs, native to
subtropical and tropical North and South America. Flowers are purple to
white, tubular. There is a Stevia serrata, called the "florist's stevia"
which I gather is also named Piqueria trinervia. Has anyone seen this plant
or knows anything about it?
Thanks,
Carol
