>From another Berkeley resident, I would suggest carefully using the roundup (twice)
with a hand sprayer, unless there is something else growing in the strip that would
get spray on it. I am not an expert on the grasses here, but what I think to be
bermuda grass, has been impossible to eradicate otherwise. And yes, even with
removal of all the grass this season, you will still have a weeding job next year
with the annual grasses that seem to seed in from everywhere. And, before I
realized that using Round-up was necessary, I had the experience of the bermuda
and other grasses outcompeting Oenethera until it disappeared entirely.
Consider yourself luck that you are able to grow something non-woody in the parking
strip at all in flatland Berkeley. In my neighborhood, I find that unless it is
woody or has thorns, it doesn't last long.
