Fellow Medit-Plants-persons -
There is a slight chance that our local Mediterranean Garden
Soiety Branch may participate in a 'vignette' garden in next
year's SF Landscape and Garden Show. In building our proposal,
the idea that seems to have floated to the surface at this
moment is that of showcasing plants appropriate to our local
climate but either unknown or underutilized. I like the idea
of showing common (but rarely used) and rare plants side-by-side.
I'd like to hear what the group thinks of this concept and what
plants they feel might be incorporated into such a display. The
criterion are:
- relatively easy to grow in common soil types and exposures in
the SF Bay Area.
- adapted to our mediterranean climate conditions, ranging from
the cooler coast to the hotter/drier interior
- interesting in flower and form, - i.e. good landscape subjects
- available at resonable expense or relatively easy to propagate
- plants of observed value that are in need of more attention
Perhaps folks might have other criterion to suggest as well. If
anyone have divisions or propagules they'd like to share with our
non-profit group, we'd be happy to aknowledge your donation.
Nurseries interested in donating plants to this display will also
be noted as participants in our garden show literature. Some real
rarities are desired for this display to excite or catch the
attention of more sophisticated plants-people.
Thanks in advance for your interesting ideas!
Regards,
Sean O.
