mass mailings and lack of snipping

I don't mean to sound cranky, but I do a lot of my work over the NET and
via email, and I try to keep up with a number of different groups such as
this. I save as much space as possible by receiving the "digest" forms of
the various discussion groups, and I use my "delete" key freely. Still, and
I trust I am not alone in this, there are times when the volume of mail
coming across is a bit much, and when I have to scroll down through lengthy
chain letters (no matter how sweetly phrased or well-meant), or through an
entire series of messages copied in their entirety as reference and
response to a single point, I do wish that other members would use their
own delete key more often as well. Some days, this list for instance,
delivers a digest requiring 3 or 4 separate files, and I find as much as
half (occasionally far more) is material copied from previous discussions.
It's a lot to wade through, and a burden on time and at times, patience.
Could we each please spend a bit more time editing before submitting, in
order to save us all having to edit heavily after receipt? Just don't
automatically copy the whole message. Select only the phrase or two you
need to provide reference. If the topic is off-topic, maybe say a word or
three about it and see if others want to know more. I know sometimes the
areas are a bit fuzzy, but please, let's all be a bit more aware of
information overload and of being email litterbugs.

Thanks, all.

Erik
