I survived the garden tour

We had several hundred people through the garden on Sunday (some of you may
remember my anxious whimpering for ideas earlier) and it went well. The
temperature was in the mid 90s. The most asked-about plants were Verbena
bonariensis, V. rigida, Phlomis fruticosa, and Philadelphus lewisii. And
the pomegranate, which is glorious right now. For some reason, hardly
anyone around here seems to know that pomegranates are well suited to our
climate.
My husband pretended not to know anything about plants (he has a graduate
degree in botany) and deferred plant questions to me.
I was entertained by the variety of straw hats.
So, thanks for your helpful suggestions. We did dress the place up with a
layer of fresh mulch, my son sold cold drinks and cookies, and we decorated
the garden with a large plastic Godzilla, an orange ankylosaurus, and a
pintail decoy in the pond. I wrote up a one page flyer about our garden
philosophy & plant sources, and a list of spp. & varieties that we grow.
It's one of those things I'm glad I did and hope not to do again for a
while.
