The exact parentage of the Meyer lemon is unknown. It is believed to be a
complex natural hybrid. I couldn't disagree more about the usefulness of the
Meyer lemon for cooking. Although not as tart as regular lemons, they are
still plenty tart, and wonderfully aromatic. We have found they are excellent
for lemonaide, lemon-meringue pie, salad dressings and marinades, ice cream
(my family's favorite), and they make the most wonderful, golden-colored
marmalade I've ever tasted. Chacun a son gout, as they say in France.
