Jacarandas are becoming popular as street tree in parts of Berkeley,
Oakland and Emeryville.  I started one from seed in 1969 and planted it
out in 1973 (after the great freeze.)  It is now three stories high and
blooming.  Some years it blooms before it leafs out and others years
after.  I have no idea why.
