Andalusian patios


I visited Andalusia in May and could admire the flowered "patios"
especially in Cordoba: all the geranium pots on the immaculate walls -
really a wonder.

What is also wonderful is how they manage to water these
flowers without leaving stains on the white walls.  Sometimes the pots
are hooked very high on the wall.  The guide gave me a rather complicated 
explanation
about a bamboo stick, which I didn't understand...
As my neighbour (here in Marseille, France), has just begun to create a 
kind of patio
and is encountering this problem of watering, I would be very grateful
if someone on the list could give me the clue to the andalusian
technique: no stain even for the highest pots!
