Re: Leucophyllum frutescens

Leucophyllum frutescens is a dominant shrub in much of the ranch lands
South of San Antonio, Texas, to the Rio Grande (and beyond) where it is
known by the names of Cenizo and Purple Sage. Maybe because the
conspicuous bloom occurs a few days after rainfall when the earth has
dried, some locals insist that when the Cenizo blooms it is predicting
rain.

Cuttings might be easier to import. Here cultivars (including a
white-blooming and a green-leaved cultivar) are propagated from short
cuttings of current growth, bottom leaves removed, treated with
root-inducing hormone in perlite with intermittent misting (less in
humid greenhouse). Roots in maybe a couple of weeks.

The purplish-lavender bloom drop is beautiful on the ground too.
