Well, for once, my wife and I found some time to garden! The teenage kids
have both been away for the past week, allowing their parents to do
whatever comes to mind over last weekend and now this week. As our
responsibilities to various visitors had simultaneously been shed and the
weather turned cool and wet after many weeks of heat, we found we spent at
least one full day out in the garden installing a planting of lavenders we
had envisioned for the past year. Yes, it is not the optimal time (last
fall would have been better) but there are compromises one much make in
life. The poor lavenders might not have been able to make it through to
this fall under my erratic care in any case!
A few of you locals have chanced to sneak by to see my garden and were
surprised at what they found, based upon what I have written here. I would
not suggest coming by just now, but there have been some significant
improvements and it is our solemn vow that the garden's re-invention come
to a presentable point by then end of this fall.
Olivier Filippi and family left the SF Bay Area yesterday afternoon, and
should be safely home in France by now. They left with nearly 100 plants
they had collected during the few weeks of their travel through our
state! These were 'processed' for the trip at our home - my wife watched
the event in amazment! I was so surprised to arrive home from the office
to find a 5-gallon bucket full of good-sized trimmings from these plants
that were left for me to propagate! None were marked, so I'll also have
the enjoyment of puzzling out what they are as time goes by!! ;-) Thanks
Olivier!!!
We enjoyed the all-too-brief time we were able to spend with these folks
and were sad to see them go. But I'm sure it will not be long before we
are together again. And hopefully Olivier will be able to share his
thoughts with this forum again very soon.
