I keep waiting for someone to mention my favorite silvery/gray salvia (at
least this month)! Salvia lanceolata

Grown by San Marcos Growers (Santa Barbara, Cal.)and called by them "Rocky
Mountain Sage" for reasons unfathomable since it is from South Africa and
most tolerant of dry soil. It's a woody based sub-shrub? growing 2 to 3 ft.
wide and tall with small gray leaves and the most interesting flowers almost
all the time. A typical salvia tube-like flower emerges from a terra cotta
calyx. When new it is yellow at the base, gradually turning dusty rose as it
ages. The whole effect in the garden is one of dusty terra-cotta-rose
flowers against a silvery gray background. One of those plants that "goes
with itself", I just can't get enough of so I keep buying, just one more!!
